Tesla Cybertruck: Cost, Range, and more.
1. Overview
Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently handed the keys for the first Cybertruck units to reservation holders Thursday during a live event at Tesla’s Austin Gigafactory in which he described the steel-clad vehicles as the “most unique thing on the road.” and revealed some key technical specifications such as pricing and delivery informations.
Musk also said during the streamed event on X platform that the Cybertruck can eventually carry more weight than the strongest pickup truck and perform better than most sports cars. The special steel used for the vehicle’s exterior design doesn’t corrode and the windows on the Cybertruck are bullet-proof, he noted.
“If you have an argument with another car, you will win,” Musk said.
What really caught many enthusiasts by surprise this time was the unexpected option that two of Cybertruck models can be equipped with a “range extender”, adding a new dimension to the already innovative aspect of the Cybertruck.
2. How much will the Cybertruck cost?
The Cybertruck comes in three different options, rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive and Cyberbeast. The rear-wheel drive Cybertruck model starts at $60,990 for which won’t be available until 2025 and can go up to 250 miles with top speed of 112 mph. According to Dan Ives, an analyst with Wedbush Securities, the launch of the Cybertruck holds immense importance for Tesla’s future growth. It is not just a standalone event but a crucial chapter in the broader narrative of Tesla’s expansion. Ives believes that the success of the Cybertruck will serve as a testament to Elon Musk’s ability to amplify the Tesla halo effect, ultimately drawing more consumers towards electric vehicles in the years to come.
The popularity of EVs has exploded in recent years as more automakers offer a wider variety of models and price points. The federal government is also offering tax credits for Americans who purchase certain EVs.
3. What makes the Cybertruck different?
As you know Tesla has never made a pickup truck before and the Cybertruck is the first one. And because Tesla always surprises us with innovative solutions, the Cybertruck is not an exception. In fact the Cybertruck will have many features including up to 250-kW of DC fast charging capability and the capability of adding up to 128 miles of range with a 15-minute session at a sufficiently powerful Supercharger.
Not to forget to mention that the pickup will integrate 120 and 240 volt outlets that can provide up to 11.5 kW of bidirectional power to tools, appliances or even a home.
The Cybertruck’s interior takes a minimalist approach with a Spartan dashboard, prominently featuring a large 18.5-inch horizontally oriented screen. Rear seat passengers have their own 9.4-inch display at the back of the center console. The cabin is equipped with wireless phone charging pads. Notably, the climate controls come with a unique “bioweapon defense mode” and hospital-grade HEPA filtration, ensuring a high level of air quality. In addition to a plenty of room for five adults, with expansive cabin views through an all-glass roof.
4. Where can I buy a Cybertruck?
For the time being, if you’re willing to get a Cybertruck, your only way is online pre-ordering. However, even with a pre-order in place, securing one in the immediate future might be very challenging. Elon Musk explained last month that it will take a decent amount of time for a Cybertruck full-scale production because it is “one of those special products that comes along only once in a long while.”
5. When Will the Cybertruck Be Available?
Tesla has delayed the Cybertruck over the years, but it technically delivered its first 10 units in November 2023. None of the owners drove the pickups and there were no door handles as they entered. Musk has promised that the Cyberbeast and AWD Cybertruck will be delivered in 2024 as we mentioned above with production starting at the Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. As for the rear-wheel version, it is expected to be available later into 2025 according to Tesla’s website.
